Team Yankee - West German 3D Printed Force - Part Two

Well I've now almost printed out one of everything I think I need for my West German force.

  • Leopard 2
  • Marder 1A2
  • Luchs
  • Jaguar 2
  • Gepard
  • Fuchs
Just the little Iltis jeep to go. I'll then start to build up the multiples of each type that I require.

Luchs 8 Wheeler with wire cannon barrel for strength.
Painting them up will be a challenge....my current collection of Vallejo paints doesn't run to a match for NATO Green - the base colour. A quick check on line and I was surprised to see my options are slim. There is a Tamiya equivalent but I've never been a fan of their paints. AK do a three paint set for the three NATO camo colours and Battlefront do a 7 pack set under their Team Yankee banner.

I've opted for the latter as it was only £13.50 + P&P from Firestorm for seven colours which can't be bad. Also as a bonus this set includes the correct colour for 1980's Bundeswehr uniform and the earlier Yellow/Green colour that older West German vehicles were still painted in.

After much Interweb trawling I finally tracked down a semi-broken link to the Marco Bergman 1/100th Moderns pack. The only way to download these is folder by folder, rather than as a whole pack. However this is a veritable Gold-Mine of files. Modern German, Soviet and US vehicles mainly, but there's some Centurion variants in there too.

The straighten "Warped" edge to the right
My first port of call was the T64 files. Every possible variant is catered for. I opted for the T64B to match the three battlefront models I already have and an initial print didn't disappoint.

The Bergman 3D printed T64B alongside the Battlefront plastic version. A Perfect match!
These are far superior to the ones I printed at the weekend, so will become my go to .stl in future.

While on the interweb, I found a rather nice (simplified) version of Battlefront's Fast Food Restaurant terrain piece. This took 8.5 hours to print out! A real test for my Ender 5 Pro. It went reasonably well, but I guess I hadn't quite levelled the bed perfectly and one corner of the roof lifted slightly.

A quick dunk in boiling water and careful flattening improved the issue to the point that it is perfectly usable. However if it had proved beyond repair, I could always have printed another one as the roof and walls are separate. Nice model.

For scale with my first version T64 model
Now when will I find time to paint all these models....?
