3D Printing Frenzy

After much fiddling and faffing, I think I've finally got to grips with the Creality Ender 5 Pro and am getting some good prints.

In fact from Friday Evening to Sunday Evening I managed to print 11 AFV's.

Mostly for 15mm use, but a couple of 'n' scale ones in there too.

The whole 15mm thing is an interesting one. Most files saved on line go with 1/100th scale as 15mm  compatible.

Now this works well for simple maths and scaling......

  • If the real vehicle is 7.5 metres long, it will be 7.5cm long at 1/100
  • If the file was created at 1/200th scale, simply doubling it's size will give you 1/100th.
Easy, yes? The problem is that true 15mm scale is really 1/120th.

I printed out a beautiful FV721 Fox Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Wheeled) (CVR(W)) that stated it was 1/100th scale, but when placed next to my 15mm scale Chieftains it was a good head and shoulders taller!

One useful feature of 3D Builder is the "Measure" function. You can place a cursor on one end of your 3D image and drag it to the other and it will give you the measurement in whatever units you are using.

There is also a compression function where you can select all parts and enlarge/reduce them in size proportionally. Therefore sizing accurately to scale is pretty straight forwards.

To help with this Scale Modeller International website has a scale converter to help with the maths!

No excuses really.

The pictures show a T64 model I downloaded compared to a Battlefront example. OK not the most accurate model ever, but certainly usable on the tabletop.
